American Cinquains & Doublets

This site is dedicated to ENGLISH short form image poetry derived
from its creator Adelaide Crapsey ..... namely AMERICAN CINQUAINS & DOUBLETS

Doublets must be rhymed two line stanzas of ten syllables
with an integral title.
Quintiles are multiple American cinquains on a common theme
and are linked to form a longer poem.

It would appear that Adelaide prioritised as follows;

Image/Thought ...... the inspiration behind the poem

Five line formStress sequence 1,2,3,4,1

Syllable sequence 2,4,6,8,2

Symmetry ............. Initial line capitals and English grammar throughout

Here are examples of each form Poetry posted is the copyright of myself. Contacr strandbg@aol.com for list/prices of my chapbook series of short poetic form

AN AMERICAN CINQUAIN

AROMATHERAPY

Often
Kindnesses float
Like petals on a stream;
A fragrance that lingers within
The heart

A QUINTILE

Thermals
Drift,rising with
Brown buzzard ground circling
Silhouette shadowed before
Slaying

as

Darkness
Descending slow
Breaking out of the silence
Of the winter's night,a single
Owl screech

of

Hunger
Which haunts each dark
Hour,as coldness kills,thus
Does Nature's chain perpetuate
At night.

A DOUBLET with integral title

FOLLOWING A TRAWLER

A bevy of gulls in a sea-fowl cloud

In fellowship squabble,whispering loud.
